Burke Gilman
Live/Work
This project offers a new building type
for Seattle’s residential neighborhoods. The lower level is a complete
two bedroom living space, while the upper level is an open loft
which can be used as a living or working space.
Across the street from the Burke Gilman
bike trail, the building reaches outward with large sliding glass
windows that fill the interiors with light and air. The skin of
the building is a rain screen of natural cedar stained a deep red.
The building form, along with a detached
garage at the back, define two courtyard like spaces in front and
back.
