Renovation
This project re-thinks and reconfigures
an existing 1924 bungalow. When originally built, the house was
a simple, working class dwelling across the street from busy railroad
tracks. In the 86 years since, the railroad has become a bike trail,
and the home has been lovingly restored by an active family.
In our renovation design for the bungalow,
we maintained the honest craftsman form of the original house, but
changed the interior layout to one more conducive to the client’s
lifestyle. The entry to the house has been shifted from the front
to the side, which takes advantage of garden space in an unusually
wide lot. This new entry is celebrated with an angular translucent
glass structure. New bedrooms will also be added to the lower level,
with careful adjustments to the existing building for space and
light.
