This is a design for a group of retreat cabins at a remote winery
on Naches Heights near Yakima, Washington.
Occupying 80 acres, the 5 cabins are situated to take advantage of dramatic
views of the surrounding landscape and vineyard. The design responds to
the predominant west winds on the ridge by nestling each cabin in the loess
of the andesite basins.
The roofs were designed to maximize solar gain for photovoltaic panels.
The cabins feature abundant natural light and ventilation, and ecologically
sensitive composting toilets to reduce their impact on the agricultural
landscape.
